The Kenya National Farmers’ Federation (KENAFF) has recognized the importance of technology in revolutionizing the agriculture sector in Kenya. As part of her Strategic Plan 2022-2026, pillar six promotes the application of ICT and data innovations in the agriculture sector for optimal production and productivity. This is a significant step towards modernizing the sector and increasing productivity to meet the growing demand for food in Kenya and beyond.
The use of ICT in agriculture is becoming increasingly popular as farmers seek innovative ways to optimize their production and reduce costs. With the advent of new technologies such as mobile applications, drones, and sensors, farmers can now monitor their crops, soil, and weather conditions in real-time, making it easier for them to make informed decisions on the best practices to employ in their firms. This increases productivity and higher yields significantly.
KENAFF’s promotion of the use of ICT in agriculture will go a long way in helping farmers to adopt these technologies. This is especially important as the majority of farmers in Kenya are smallholders and may not have the necessary resources to purchase or access these technologies. KENAFF is working with various stakeholders to provide training and support to farmers, enabling them to adopt these technologies and use them effectively to increase their productivity.
In addition to ICT, KENAFF is also promoting the use of data innovations in agriculture. By using data, farmers can make informed decisions on crop selection, planting, and harvesting, as well as other agricultural practices. This information can be used to optimize inputs such as fertilizers, pesticides, and water, leading to higher yields and reduced costs. KENAFF is working to ensure that farmers have access to reliable and accurate data to enable them to make informed decisions in their farms.

KENAFF Strategic Plan, 2022 – 2026 Pillar Six: Data Innovations and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in agriculture
KENAFF shall promote the application of ICT and data innovation in the agricultural sector for optimal production and productivity. KENAFF shall promote digital application in knowledge sharing and information dissemination, provision of technical advisory, market facilitation and weather data services. Others will be the elimination of fake farm inputs, traceability, food safety and KilimoHub (KENAFF Hubs) for ongoing training and advisory services for farmers.
