Goat housing as well as the kind of animals to stock are important factors in any goat farming business.
When rearing goats commercially, build a goat house because this is a straining area. The house built can be either a ground house or raised house: But which ever house built, ensure that you keep hygiene because poor housing leads to the death of kids.
Raised goats house
When you build a raised goats house, ensure that the house is raised to a height that is recommended ie at least 1 metre high such that it allows someone to go underneath and do the cleaning. The relevance of raising the house is to separate the animals from the dung.
The goats house should be built at the edge of the fence and not in the centre. This makes management ie entering of the goats easier because animals naturally like edges/ corners.
Curling goats
Having goats that do not produce on your farm translates into losses because you incur costs in feeding and managing them but they do not produce hence curling is needed.
Curl out the old goats. Old goats will usually have hairs getting off their skin and nose. Technically, the age of a goat can be known by checking its teeth. When fully grown, a goat will have 4 pairs of teeth and with these. The teeth begin flattening at 7 years, at 8 years they begin shortening and at 10 years, the teeth begin getting off.
Old goats have low immunity and incase of a disease, chances of survival are low. They also have low productivity ie they kid once or not at all in a year yet goats are supposed to kid twice a year.
