When making chicken feeds use grade 2-3 maize. Do not exceed the required levels of oil in feeds as this will increase the deposition of fats and the higher the fats deposit the lesser the chances of egg production.
If you opt to use fish meal make sure it is thoroughly cooked before it is used and if you use cotton cake ensure that it is decorticated.
Layers mash
When making a 70 kgs of layers mash, you need 34 kgs of whole maize, wheat or dried and crashed cassava. 12 Kgs of roasted or cooked soya. Add 8 Kgs of omena or fish meal, 10 Kgs of maize bran or wheat bran to make the feed palatable which is good for digestion and preventing of constipation and diarrhoea.
Add 6 kgs of lime and amino acids which include 70 grams per bag of lysin,70 grams of methionine and layers premix as it helps to stabilize the laying and maintain the birds on the laying curve.
Add toxin binder, it helps curb the effects of toxins that assist in reduction of bird production or total mortalities.
Growers mash
Add 27 kgs of maize or wheat, 23 Kgs of maize bran or wheat bran , 3.4 kgs of cooked or roasted soya bean by-products. 11 kgs of sunflower or decorticated cotton cake , 700 grams of bonemeal.
3 kgs of limestone , micro nutrients such as toxin binder – 50 grams , salt 14-15 grams, 50 grams of zinc and 50 grams lysine.
Chick mash
31.5 kgs of maize or wheat, 9.1 kgs of wheat bran or maize bran, 7.2 or 7.0 kgs of wheat pollard, 16.8 Kgs of soya bean by- products for the formulation of feathers and development of tissues
1.5 -1.8 kgs of fish meal, 1.5 kgs of limestone for the formulation of bones and 30 grams of salt, cocidiostatika to control coccidiosis, chick premix to stimulate growth , enzymes to break down feeds, toxin binder and methionine.
