A uniform flock is a flock that has uniform size and weight with few birds outside the range. Uniformity of parent stock is key in flock performance.
Usually uniform birds are easy to manage and perform better. There are different factors for stock uniformity and among these include, stocking density, ventilation, feed supply, lighting, temperature and water supply. Additionally check chicken vent temperature to ensure that the birds are comfortable.
Measures to implement
Always place day old chicks in clean biosecure houses with good temperature and air flow.
Ensure relative humidity and light intensity in poultry house to enable chicks easily identify feeds and water.
Also adjust temperature according to humidity and ensure good ventilation for proper air flow.
Ensure that chicks have enough water and feeds this can be done by gently feeling the crop.
Furthermore, after 4 weeks grade the birds depending on weight to allow easy flock management.
Additionally, provide birds with sufficient space and increase space as birds grow to allow birds feed properly and exercise well.
Always uniformly distribute feeds to birds at proper times and ensure that bird receive feeds at the same time.
Lastly, weigh and record birds weight weekly, monitor feed intake, distribution, clean up time and implement biosecurity.
