Fish can be raised in ponds, tanks, cages. Fish usually take 2 weeks to adopt to new environments and sick or abnormal fish are quarantined for 2-4 weeks.

Keeping a healthy fish farm quarantine is very important. Fish farming quarantine involves isolating sick, suspected sick fish to avoid disease spread hence the earlier to spot sings of sick fish helps to avoid total losses, usually sick fish are lazy in swimming and consume less feeds.

Good quarantine management

Ensure constant monitoring and pay close attention to fish. This helps to timely observe sick fish and give them remedies as soon as possible. Additionally isolated fish must be given extra attention for a quick recovery. Always disconnect quarantine pond from healthy fish pond to avoid cross contamination.

Biosecurity precautions

First, locate fish farm in areas with less or no fish farms, also the fish farm should be located in areas with low settlement as densely populated areas lowers fish immunity against diseases. Additionally identify the common types of diseases in the area so as to facilitate plans for proper disease management. Always maintain good quality water in the fish pond to avoid stress and disease risk.

Additionally, do not keep fish of different ages together to facilitate proper water temperature regulation as well as understand better the the different types of organisms at farm in order to avoid harmful bacteria‘s and viruses. Also ensure proper storage of fish feeds to prevent development of harmful fungus.

Always consider the type of food brought at farm by other people since some foods may contain pathogens that may transfer to the fish and properly dispose off the dead fish by removing them from the pond as soon a possible and dispose them off in the right place to avoid the spread of infections.
