Measures to follow
Start by selecting clay loose soils, thereafter treat cuttings to prevent seed borne diseases. Also plant sugar cuttings during rainy seasons and apply adequate nitrogenous fertilizers to boost plant growth.
Management practices
Always irrigate adequately after planting for proper seed germination and during dry seasons for proper plant growth. However, watering should stop 15 days prior to harvest. Additionally, apply mulches to conserve soil moisture and hoe to earth up soil to plants 3-4 weeks after planting for proper weed control. Furthermore, control pests and diseases and assess maturity of crop before harvesting. Lastly ensure proper transportation of harvested sugarcanes to processing industries.
