»Growing Corn Seed To Harvest«

Being a highly consumed staple food by many people around the world, corn growing is affected by the mode of technology used.
As corn growing is done at a spacing of a foot apart in a block of 10 sq ft, it requires sunlight of 8 hours plus a day and soils should be rich, well drained, loose airy with neutral pH and temperatures of 10 degrees centigrade.

Corn production

First, prepare the bed, place seed on it, cover with a layer of top soil, space them at 6 inches apart, mulch and water heavily. As corn sprout in 5-7 days, corn plants are monecious containing both male and female flowers.
Similarly, tassels are at apex of plant and they emerge first and later silk come out where pollen falls by gravity by wind to them for fertilization to take place and corn develops 4-6 weeks later. To care for corn, keep plants spaced, well watered and apply balanced organic liquid fertilizers every 3 weeks and after a month, tassels forms at top of plant and silk form on the 1st or 2nd leaf node.
Furthermore, when silks tuen brown, corn is to harvest or squeeze seeds with fingers and when seeds are hard, they are ready to pick and when harvesting, pull the ear straight down and finally pick corn for immediate use or harvest and keep them in refrigerator.
