Charcoal as chicken feed is easy to prepare and highly beneficial to birds as it kills worms hence enhancing egg production and weight gain. However, when preparing the charcoal powder do not use chemical-treated timber as these contain chemicals that may affect the health of birds. Additionally, do not grind charcoal to powder as this may cause congestion in the chicken breathing system which may cause death.

Charcoal benefits

Powder charcoal is beneficial to chickens as it prevents diarrhea by hardening feces, thus preventing water and energy loss. Additionally, charcoal also prevents coccidiosis by killing the eimeria parasites thus improving the bird’s overall health. Furthermore, charcoal removes toxins from the chicken body as well as helps chickens to lay more thick-shelled eggs thus increasing farm profits. Lastly, it also increases dropping nutrient composition and prevents bacterial diseases in birds.

Charcoal powder preparation

To obtain charcoal powder start by burning wood into charcoal. Thereafter grind burnt charcoal to a coarse texture but not powder form since powder can block the breathing system resulting in the death of birds. Lastly, after preparation of the charcoal coarse powder, mix  1 kg of feeds with 250 grams of grind charcoal and give the mixture to birds for 1 week every month.
