»Rapid multiplication of suckers«
Through the rapid sucker multiplication method this ensure the production of good healthy suckers that generate high yields as compared to using suckers from already existing farms.
Additionally, the rapid sucker multiplication method provides many disease free suckers that generate high yields and income, as well as reducing on the spread of banana plants diseases. Usually one banana 1 comb can produce over 50 plantlets. The method requires some of the materials such as sawdust, suckers, cutlers, knives, poly bags, poly sheets, top soil, sticks and humidity chamber.
Setting humidity chamber
Start by fixing 4 sticks at chamber ends and bar on top to easily links the 4 sticks and fill the chamber with smooth saw dust.
Sucker preparation
Begin by selecting healthy sword sucker, then peel off roots to avoid nematode infestation. Thereafter, remove all leaf sheath, destroy the plant growing points in the mid point by making a cross intersection and pushing a small piece of wood deep at the growing point. This is followed by arranging combs on chamber, watering the top evenly and cover suckers in the humidity chamber with transparent polythene sheet to prevent them from drying.
Sucker harvesting
After 1 month, harvest suckers by carefully cutting them from the comb base and firmly plant them in poly bags filled with fertile soil.
