Soil management
To reuse any soil, a farmer should sterilise it to kill pathogens and for raised beds, he should sterilise soil by exposing to full sun and weather and for fast sterilisation, bake soil on tarpauline for a few days or sealed in a bag for several weeks in full sun light. Potting soil becomes spent due to loss of nutrients and organic matter.
Similarly, mix old soil with new organic soil at rtio of 50:50 and build up compost with old soil for its re use and recharge old potting soil by adding nutrients in form of amenedments by adding vermiculite, sand, cocoa fire or fresh compost, alfalfa meal, rock phosphate and rock dust to replace organic matter lost.
Finally, amendments can be added at a ratio of 10% of total volume.
