»Artificial insemination in dairy animals«
Artificial insemination involves the collection of semen from male animals and manually depositing it into the female reproductive tract.
Additionally, performing artificial insemination at proper oestrus time results into a successful operation this is done with the help of the Artificial inseminating gun. Additionally, there are other tools used during the process and among these include , cryocan, water bath, thermos flask, straw cutter, scissors, apron, gloves and gumboots. However during the process ensure to maintain water temperature in the thermos flask throughout the process.
First steps
Start by setting water bath temperature to 37 degrees celsius before thawing, raise the canister to take out straws from cryocan this prevents sperms from thermal injury, then pick semen straws using forceps. Furthermore, close the cryocan tightly, thaw straws in hot water of 37 degrees celsius for 40-45 seconds. Lastly, clean, sterilise the AI gun and wipe the straw, thereafter load the straw into AI gun and make a clean cut on the straw below the laboratory seal using scissors.
Secondary steps
Hold bottom end and remove the sheath from pack, place it over the gun and lock using the O ring. Gently insert gloved hand into the rectum to remove the faecal materials, then clean the vulva with water and request for assistance for one to open the vulva lips. Thereafter insert gun at 30 angle until it reaches the vagina openings. Furthermore, firmly hold cervix through rectum, pass gun gently through vagina to cervix and through cervical canal until gun tip reaches the internal OS.
Precautions
For successful operation only Inseminate animals on heat and rest animals after AI. Additionally, follow up performed AI at regular intervals to check animals for any kinds of oestrus behaviour and timely give animals proper treatments.
