As a green vegetable, the quality and quantity of cabbage is determined by the type and level of technology used in the process of production.
Being one of the most nutritious and rich in vitamin A leafy vegetables, early cabbage cultivation has high demand and lucrative with proper planing and care. It can be grown in all types of soils mainly on loam and silt – loam.
Cabbage management
During production, seedlings are produced in the seed bed and planted in the field of size 1m * 2m (WxL) which is prepared by mixing sand, soil and organic manure. Mix fertilizers well in the seed bed 7-8 days before sowing seeds and later apply urea fertilizer on germinating seedling for proper growth.
Similarly, seedlings are planted in seed bed 30-35 days after sowing hence prepare land by deep cultivation of 4-5 times followed by the sprinkling of fertilizer evenly on land on the last tillage which is mixed with soil. Ready seed bed should be high 1m wide with 15-20 cm from ground.
After 30-35 days of seedlings in nursery, plant in the them in main land in the afternoon at a spacing of 60*45 cm and apply fertilizers. Add urea 300-350 kg, TSP 200-250kg and dung 5-10 tones. All fertilizers are sprinkled evenly in field on last cultivation and mix with soil.
Additionally, fertilizers are applied in 3 instalments which include at 10 days after planting, at 25 days and during head formation of the cabbage. Land should be irrigated immediately after applying fertilizers and then after 2-3 days as well.
Finally, apply pesticides and fungicides to prevent diseases and harvest cabbage between 60- 90 days after planting.
