Animal identification is very key to livestock farmers to ease management and to enable proper record keeping, there are various methods used by farmers to identify their animals.

Additionally, animals identification methods such as tattooing, ear tagging and radio collar are very important techniques used to identify the individual animals and its details for effective management. Tattooing is recommended to be done at calf early age for easy identification.

Tattooing method

Tattooing should be done at calf early age by marking the animals ear.

Furthermore, after marking the ear, apply vegetable ink over marked areas on ear.

Ear tagging method

Ear tag should be inserted 1/3 away out of the ear base, generally at upper ear edge with number on top.

However, the ear tag should not pierced near or on the blood vessels.

Radio collar method

This method is used in the automatic feeding system to recognise and feed the individual animal as per their requirements.
