Oftentimes, plants grown in a container die out after some time due to many reasons, one of which is loss of soil fertility of the potting soil.

Reusing the same potting soil to plant another crop before rejuvenating/ improving on its fertility implies that the new crop will not grow properly and the rejuvenation can be done by following a few simple steps.

Pot soil rejuvenation

First, check the moisture content of the old pot soil by the feeling method and if the soil is too dry then moisten it by adding water but don’t make it soggy.
Take out the soil from the container and pour it on a tarpaulin.
Add compost manure that should be at least 30% of the total soil amount. Compost increases the amount of organic carbon in the soil which favors the growth of good microorganisms.
Mix the soil thoroughly with the compost and after, mound the soil and cover it using a cloth.
Spray moisture on top of the covering cloth and let the soil stay for between 12 to 24 hours.
After 1 or 2 days, the potting soil will be ready for reuse.
