Prevention strategies
First, make a dust bathing area and add diatomaceous earth to it to easily kill parasites. Additionally, add repellants to dust the bathing area and clean nesting boxes to remove hiding grounds for mites. Furthermore, replace the chicken nesting material, keep off rodents and wild birds away from chicken premises, and lastly always avoid overcrowding birds in one place.
Organic treatment
For effective organic treatment of scary leg mites in chickens, start by removing old litter from the chicken house and cleaning the house properly. Secondly, sprinkle diatomaceous earth in the cleaned house and spray the chicken house with white vinegar to kill scaly leg mites. Alternatively, soak the legs of the affected birds in warm water and allow them to dry before rubbing the scales off with a brush, thereafter smear olive or coconut oil 3 times a week on the affected chicken legs surfaces this kills mites and their eggs by suffocation.
