Winter management is a set of practices followed during winter periods to protect the dairy animal from cold waves.

Cold weather in animal sheds usually cause stress to animals hence reducing on production and increased calf mortality rates resulting into great farm losses thus need to always ensure good winter management practices to create a conducive environment for the animals health during winter times.

Heat management practices

Always ensure to cover animal shed with appropriate materials such as gunny bags and tarpaulins during winter seasons.

Additionally, provide concentrates with chopped paddy and rice straws to animals as these help to generate heat as well as energy to animals.

Furthermore, provide mineral mixture to animals as this is also effective against winter to animals.

Also provide additional heat sources to calves during night time for example heat bulbs to reduce cold weather effect.

Lastly provide bedding to animals especially calves to reduce the effect of cold weather to animals.
