Like other crops , the production of carrots is determined by the method of growing used and the level of technology used on the farm. As carrots are directly seeded, they need a lot of time during germination and during thing. Carrot types include chantenay, danvers, imperato and nantes and these need soft airy and well drained soils rich in organic matter with neutral to slightly acidic pH.

Crop management

Carrots being cool weather crop and grow in a wide range of temperatures dont fertilize carrots and grow in  sand, loose well drained soils. The warmer the temperature, the faster the seed sprouting and always plant at 0.5 inch or less and mulch for seeds to establish.
Similarly, use potting mix when planting carrots and water soil before planting and spread seeds in garden by hands evenly and cover them with more mix. Cover with mulch after planting and water after and thin carrots when they are 4 inches of height to provide spacing of an inch between plants.
Always remove the small carrots when thining and water depending on growing zone, weather and climate and provide fertilizer rich in phosphorous and potassium when carrots are 4 inches tall prior to first thining.  For defficient  soils, feed carrots again when they are 25cm tall and harvest baby carrots at 40-60 days, mid-sized carrots at 60-80 days and fully grown carrots at  80 days and above.
Furthermore, loosen ground around roots for easy harvesting and do not damage carrots when harvesting for good storage and remove greens and dont peel carrots.
Finally, seal carrots in a bag to store for a month.
