Basil management
A farmer should provide shade to basil and intercrop with either tomatoes or peppers. Soil need to be well drained, able to absorb moisture and should have high organic content, neutral pH, free of debris and other impendiments.
Equally, a farmers should apply nitrogen fertlizer and plant in container of 4-6 inches deep with holes at bottom and also water basil well but not every day especially those in containers as soil may become anerobic.
Water soil container from bottom and in moist organic potting mix, put seeds 0.5 inches deep for good germination as shallow planting risks drying out of seed before germination. Seeds germinate in 3-5 days and harvesting is done when plants get 3 leaf nodes.
Furthermore, harvest basil by cutting above nodes leaving one node for plant to survive and after, the remaining node on step develop 2 new stems and every harvesting double new stems. For basil plants from cuttings, submerge 1 node into water for root development and plant cutting when they have more than 5-6 roots and keep young cutting well watered with moderate light amount and temperatures of 15-21 centigrade.
Finally, basil establish fully in week.
