»Have you ever wondered how much it would take to grow a tree for it to give you that good charcoal that gives your meat that amazing flame-grilled taste? Meet Teddy, a meat lover who is very passionate about our environment, reforesting land through his innovative seed balls company. The seeds are encased in compacted charcoal dust, making them resilient, easy to plant, and affordable. It’s a game-changer to the greening Kenya initiative and achieving the tree cover we all yearn for. While at it, pull that rib gently, remember that the next best time to plant a tree is now, and subscribe too«

A seedball is simply a seed inside a ball of charcoal dust mixed with some nutritious binders and then broadcasted on the fields.

Direct planting of seeding reduces transplant shock and helps the young trees grow stronger roots which in turn helps them grow into stronger trees. However, use of seedballs helps in protecting the seeds in a natural organic non toxic way. Charcoal is used protect the seeds until the rain comes, washes the charcoal away and the seed is exposed. This is to reduce the costs of planting various useful indigenous plant species and preventing seeds being eaten by birds, mites and squirrels.

Use of Charcoal

Charcoal dust is used to make seedballs as it is not eaten by birds, mites and squirrels. It is also good for the soil.

Since trees are cut to make charcoals, use of charcoal dusts to make seedballs helps to complete the charcoal energy cycle.

Seeds Distribution

Tree species chosen to make seedballs are those that are overexploited in making charcoal. These include acacia tortillias, acacia syel, quesadilla, nylotica.

Seeds distributed by broadcasting on fields by use of parachutes, helicopters, camels, people etc

Challenges of this type is that trees take a long time to grow.
