There are several ideas in which one can establish a simple space and water efficient garden using locally available materials .
This include the cone garden, the multi storey garden, the tyre garden, the moist bed garden and the simple drip garden. Drip garden is a simple technology that takes little time and energy to maintain.
Drip irrigation garden
Materials used include: recycled plastic jerricans, include 5 litres bottle and jerricans a pole or a wall cutting tool, nails pricking needle, soil mixed with manure in a ratio of 1:1, water and seedlings.
The garden should be in an area where its not abstracting anything. Put it on the wall or fence at a height where you can comfortably reach. From the posts, measure where you will put the jerricans, at a length of 50cm in an alternating manner.
Constructing simple drip
Cut the jerricans, remove the bottom part and put a few holes on the sides. Put a strong nail enough to hold the jerricans 3-4 inch on the post then put the jerricans. Use a binding wire to fix them tightly on the wall or the pole. Make sure it is firm so that the vegetables dont fall.
Putting soil
Put stones to prevent soil from falling in all the jerricans. Fill the jerricans with soil, use a 5 litres bottle. Prick it with a needle to have holes that will drip water then fill it with water. Fix a binding wire on top of the bottle which will be used to hung on the nail.
Fill the jerrican with water along the nail so the water will be dripping and soil will be soaked, the container can accommodate up to three plants.
