Initially, the known method of producing coffee seedling is by germinating the coffee seeds however due to inventions and innovations, seedlings are now obtained also from cuttings which adds a high value in coffee growing.

First of all to prepare plantlets, one needs cuttings from mother bushes, rooting media, planting pots and a white polythene. In this, saw dust is mixed with lake sand to make rooting media at a ratio of 2:1.

Material preparation

A successful coffee plantlet experiment is began by harvesting cuttings at a pencil thickness at a height of 2 inches using sharp shears. Make a hole in pot, add rooting media and insert cutting gently in the media and cover with white polythene sheet for the plants to get light and conserve water as well.

Plantlet management

For quality of seedlings, check for water occasionally, pests and disease attack. Continue by removing disease attacked plants and apply water on healthy one and cover again.

For proper management, use white polythene under black net to cover seedlings to keep off direct heat and protect plants from scotching by sun.

Not only the above but also build a cage for plants to grow freely for 4-6 months depending on weather and after, remove the sheet gradually for plants to get subjected to hard environment.

Lastly, harden plants under green net to allow more sunlight making conditions similar to that in the open field.
