Being of high nutritional values to the farmers, poultry farming is determined by the type and level of technology used.
Poultry farming is done for eggs, meat, income and for manure used in garden for organic farming how ever, new castle disease caused by a virus and is highly contagious that can cause all chicken in the flock to die in a few days
New castle management
As new castle spreads when healthy birds come into close contact with infected plants, other sources of disease are new birds from market, unclean farm tool, feed, manure and from near the flock. The signs include sneezing, coughing, gasping, swelling around eyes, greenish watery manure, eating less or not at all, dropping wings, sleeping, flopped feathers, un coordinated movement and twisted neck.
Additionally, to prevent the disease, any bird with signs should be separated immediately and placed far from place of flock and contact agricultural extension officer for advice. Continue by slaughtering the birds showing severe signs of illness and burry or burn them for proper disposal.
Furthermore, prevent also by vaccinating birds regularly, maintain good hygiene around flock and limit contact between chicken with other domestic birds. Provide additional good feed for chicken on free range and vaccinate birds against new castle disease regularly.
