Fish farming is globally practised by many farmers due to its great benefits however fingerlings should not be overstocked or overcrowded for proper growth and development.

During feeding fish when feeds are observed floating on water this shows that the fish are over fed and this may result into water pollution. Additionally, water should be changed regularly for example for tarpaulin and concrete ponds water should be changed every after 3-4 days and for earthen ponds water should be changed once a month.

Steps to production

First obtain and moderately stock good fish breeds from reputable fish farms so as not to be given inferior fish breeds that are susceptible to diseases and always feed the fish well in order to make good profits. Similarly use the recommended feeds at the beginning for faster fish growth and do not over crowd stock for even fish growth.

Furthermore feeding should be done in the morning and evening while ensuring that fish are fed very well and not overcrowded as remaining feeds contaminate water and pollute the environment.

You should also maintain a healthy environment for fish through regular change of water and remove dead fish caucus as soon as they are noticed since dirty water leads to spread of diseases in pond.

Conclusively for beginners you should start by 400- 500 fingerlings, with sufficient capital that can be used to cover land expenses, construction and feeds, cost of fingerlings and cost of materials, cost of medication and cost of transportation.
