»In this video, we visit James from@Tap o‘ Noth Permaculture – a food forest farm in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Tap o‘ Noth is an incredible 8-acre agroforestry permaculture small farm that integrates crops and animals alongside perennial planting. By using inspiration from how this land would be if left fully to Nature, James and his partner Rosa are using that to their advantage to create a place that not only produces food and fuel, but also makes Nature a core part of their whole operation. «

»Incredible benefits of agroforestry«

Agroforestry has a lot of potential benefits to both the farmer and the ecosystem.
Agroforestry is the purposeful integration of trees within a farming land scape with crops or livestock. The trees integrated can be fruit trees or other perennial woody tree spices. The trees trees can be grown for fuel, fodder, fibre and pharmaceuticals.

Importance of agroforestry

Trees can be grown for firewoods and this can be practised through caucus agriculture where trees are panted and after growing, they are cut down for firewood and then the remaining stump re sprouts.
You can plant trees that are perfect for feeding the ruminants ie tree spices that are rich in calcium and high in nitrogen. These can be fed directly to animals or cut and made into hay for feeding to animals in times of feed scarcity. Plant trees that are perfect for goats to browse.
Trees also act as wind breaks. Fast growing trees can also be planted and these act as wind buffers.
Agroforestry also focuses on silvopasture which is the integration of trees in a grazing system. This enables you to have maximum utilization of resources. These can be inform of a row of trees running through the grazing area. The trees provide shelter and reduce stress to their animals.
