Kitchen waste is put into the trash by many but this can be used to make a useful organic compost that can be used as a soil amendment.

To make compost from kitchen waste, you need need to have a composting bin in which the compost will be made, kitchen waste that will be used to make compost, old compost, and soil that will be used as an inoculum.

Composting process

Put the kitchen waste into a composting bin layer after layer. And after every layer, put some soil before putting another layer of kitchen waste.
Also, add old compost after every layer of kitchen waste and a layer of kitchen waste is supposed to be between 2 to 3 inches. The old compost and soil act as inoculants or sources of microorganisms that help in the breakdown of kitchen waste into compost.
Keep putting old compost and soil after every layer of kitchen waste until the kitchen waste is over.
After the kitchen waste is over, add 2 inches of compost on top and water a little bit to provide the moisture that’s needed for the decomposition to take place.
Cover the composting bin but leave space for exchange of air and the compost will be ready for use after 4 weeks.
