Cuttings can be used to develop new plants but the rate of development of the cuttings depends on the quality of the soil media in which they are planted.

There are different rooting media known for raising cuttings into plants. For people that live in urban areas and soil is not available for them, cocopeat is the best option to them but this needs to be used in the right manner otherwise the plants may decay before they start rooting.

Other rooting media

Before using the cocopeat, ensure that you follow the washing and drying process to make the cocopeat ready for use. After making the cocopeat ready, take the required amount of cocopeat and put it in a tray, measure an equal portion of fine sand and pour it over the cocopeat, and then mix them together.
After the mixing process, the potting mixture is then ready for use.
Clay soil has problems of water logging and if used for potting, there are higher possibilities that the cuttings will decay before they start rooting because the clay soil doesn’t easily allow air to go through and reach the cuttings.
To use clay soil, get a required amount of clay soil and put it in a mixing container, pour an equal amount of sand soil over the clay soil. After mixing, the potting soil is then ready to use.
Sandy soils contain a large portion of sand content and due to this, water drains quickly from it and this makes it a suitable potting medium hence sand is used directly for potting cuttings.
