Pastures and forages are known to provide the essential nutrients to livestock and some times poultry. These can be fed to the livestock by allowing animals graze through pasture and forage fields or harvested and fed to the animals especially in zero grazing.
Pasture grasses
These are known to be high in energy and low in protein and can be served fresh or processed and stored in form of silage or hay.
Examples of pasture grasses include elephant grass, guinea grass, spear grass and others.
These make up the higher percentage of livestock feed.
Forage crops
Forage crops are known to be high in protein but low in energy and are used to as a source of protein to the livestock. They include crops like Mucuna and lablab.
