Crop management
When planting straw berries, space them at 30cm between plants and 60cm between rows and give plants 4 weeks before first fall frost and a month to establish as runners spread and conquer fast. Because strawberries are full sun plants requiring 6 hours perday, best production is gotten in second, third and fourth year.
Similary, Plants require well drained soils with even moisture and water regularly in containers. Keep soil moist with neutral pH and high organic matter, minimise soil disturbances and pre soak the holes before planting in case of dry soils. However, never bury the main crown when planting straw berry and always mulch the garden after planting using a thick layer mulch and water.
Furthermore, apply a balanced liquid organic fertilizer and use pots of 6 inches tall. Space plants at 6 inches apart and finally use potting mix, mulch and water after plating.
