Before beginning goat farming business, there are some key things to consider.

When beginning goat farming, human resource is a very important factor, because it is these that help in feeding and rearing of the goats. Sometimes its hard to find a graduate doing such a job and in most cases you have to deal with the uneducated or less educated people. For the business to succeed, you need to know how to handle and work with them.

Factors considered

Land is a pillar in goat farming. Without land, you can do nothing in goat farming.

Grass should also be considered before beginning goat farming. This can be planted as well supplemented with other crop residues. After harvesting corn, the remaining stovers can be converted into feed. Maize stovers in an acre can feed over 50 animals for 6 months. Elephant grass can also be used as a source of feed.

Water is essential in farming and should be considered before beginning goat farming.

Structures. These can be simple but technical and include spraying yard, exercising area, kids‘ pen and shelter for the goats. The dimensions depend on the number of goats you are rearing.

Genetics of the goats. Hybrids should be preferred compared to the locals because of the many advantages they have over the locals.
