Urban agriculture benefits the farmers in the city and also act as a source of income. The cities have abundance of water and organic wastes but lacks space.
Dairy cows are kept in stalls and brought fodder to eat. This is practice is called Zero-grazing and is best suited to where land is scarce. Organic waste can be recycled as fodder for the cows. Discarded fruits, vegetables and banana peelings have to be sorted before being used as fodder.
Biogas system
Manure from cows can be turned into biogas that helps cut down on electricity, fuels and improves the environment. Cow manure is collected and added to the inlet box of the biogas system and mixed with water and thoroughly while removing debris and grass. This helps provide the fuel for a biogas plant. The mixture is released to the main chamber where methane gas is released then used in the kitchen. The mix of methane and carbon dioxide can be used for cooking and lighting. The slurry from the digestive material can be used as organic manure for vegetables, fruits in the farm. Cheaper biogas models are locally available in the market. This recycling of resources enables the environment to remain clean.
