Teff is an important cereal crop, transplanting teff helps farmers to reduce input costs and increase yields.
Transplanting increase grain and straw yield in that you can save 29kg of seeds per hectare. You only need half a kilogram of teff seed per hectare. Raise seedlings in fine, fertile prepared seedbed close to transplanting field 20 – 30 days before planting time.
Transplanting
Make lines 10cm apart on loam raised bed and adjust rope height on supporting sticks to get preferred distance from ground.
Put seeds in lines, cover with 2 – 3 cm of fine soil, apply water regularly and weed.
Before transplanting, clean, plough and level field.
A day before transplanting apply sufficient water and only transplant when field is moist, very wet or saturated with water.
Make rows at 20 cm in main field, apply DAP and cover with fine soil.
Put 3 seedlings per hole at 10cm interval and apply half recommended Urea when seedlings establish.
After 30 days apply urea in between rows.
