On a poultry farm biosecurity is very important in prevention or management of disease.
To be a successful poultry farmer, there are 3 things that you have to pay attention to and these include effective bio security, keeping an up to date vaccination schedule and quality nutrition. Biosecurity consists of all that you do on your farm to prevent your flock from being exposed to infections and this prevents outbreak of of diseases and this ensures profit maximization because if there is an out break of disease on your farm and you record mortalities, you are registering losses.
Biosecurity measures
One of the major components of biosecurity is hygiene. You need to ensure good sanitation and cleanliness for you, the workers and the things on the farm. Ensure that everyone visiting the farm is clean and its better to have separate clothings that you wear while on the farm to avoid bringing in diseases to the farm.
Ensure that you have a foot dip with water and a disinfectant where each one entering the farm must dip their feet.
Control traffic at the farm by restricting entry to the farm. Have selling point like at the gate to minimise access of customers to the farm in the name of coming to buy.
Quarantine new birds for close monitoring of any sign of infection before mixing them with the existing flock.
Isolate sick birds to prevent spreading of diseases from sick to normal birds.
