Fish farming is a profitable business. It is highly recommended to choose good quality fish stock so as to get more profits. Additionally, during pond feeding distribute feeds across the pond to allow equal access of food to fish. Additionally, perform mechanical aeration of water to increase dissolved oxygen levels in pond. Also during selection of mature fish to stock ensure choosing fish with developed secondary sexual characteristics for example female fish should have round belly full of eggs and males should have raised muscle pads.

Catfish care practices

Start by selecting good catfish brood stock and place spawns in sheltered locations to facilitate proper spawning. Also check spawning cans by slowly raising them out of water to collect and transport eggs to the hatchery. Furthermore, transport and put collected eggs in a water trough with slowly rotating paddles. Additionally, count the number of fries and weigh, thereafter place the fry sac into large water troughs to know the exact number of fries available for proper pond stocking.

Precautions to follow

Always feed swimming fries 4-8 times a day and feed them on pellet feeds as they grow. Also closely monitor pond water quality to ensure optimum growing conditions and weigh fish before processing. Additionally, harvest fish after 18 months with a with sizeable nets to allow smaller fish escape and sort, park and transport fish well using good transporting facilities.
