Improved indigenous chickens provide farmers with more meat and eggs that are sold at higher prices hence generating high returns. Additionally, to achieve high returns from poultry farming ensure to correctly follow the feeding program to avoid feed wastage and when changing from one feed to another this should be done gradually. Furthermore, feeding costs for improved chickens are usually higher thus need to formulate their own feeds to save on production costs. Also, make sure that formulated indigenous chicken feeds contain the correct proportions of proteins, vitamins, minerals, and energy.

Chick mash formulation

Chick mash is fed to birds from day 1 up to week 7. To prepare 100kg of the chick carefully measure and mix 10kg maize, 28kg maize germ, 8kg wheat bran, 21.5kg wheat pollard, 6kg fish meal, 7kg soybean meal, 10kg sunflower cake, 5kg cotton seed cake, 2.5kg lime, 1kg bone meal, 200g DCP and 50g methionine.

Growers mash formulation

 Growers mash this is fed to birds from week 8 up to laying stage. To prepare growers mash start by carefully measuring and mixing 5kg maize, 40kg maize germ, 25kg wheat brand, 17kg wheat pollard, 3kg fish meal, 3kg sunflower cake, 2kg Cotton seed cake, 3kg limestone, 1kg bone meal, 50g methionine, 50g coccidiostat, 200g DCP and 300g salt.

Layers mash formulation

Layers mash is given to birds during egg laying period. To prepare layers mash carefully measure and mix 9kg maize, 30kg maize germ, 13kg wheat bran, 15.5 wheat pollard, 5kg fish meal, 6kg soybean meal, 8kg sunflower cake, 4kg cotton seed cake, 7kg limestone, 1.7kg bone meal, 200g DCP, 50g methionine, 200g layers premix and 300g of salt.
