collecting a swarm of honey bees and successfully placing them in a 10 frame hive body

We need a hive box, a pruning snip, a pruning saw, and a sugar syrup that is 50% sugar and 50% water. Spray the syrup on the bees.

The sugar water cools them down gives them some nourishment as well as makes them heavier. This makes them fall easily when we shake the branch. Spray the frames with the sugar, this helps draw the bees into the hive without removing the frames. Shake the bees off from the branch to the hive box. As you shake make sure the queen doesn’t fall off, if the queen is in the box the workers will follow it because of the pheromone. Place the inner cover upside down to allow some room for bees that remain on the top of the frames. Prime the landing board with sugar water, and cover the box with the outer cover once you confirm the queen is in the box.
