Pigeon farming is interesting, profitable and the birds are are popular. However unlike other investments, pigeon farming require less labour and low investment and the baby pigeon meat is very tasty, nutritious and have huge demand.
Farm management
As pigeon farming is a great source of extra income and entertainment, pigeons can be raised in home yard and roof of house. They start laying eggs at 6 months and produce two babies per month on average and for better management, ensure huge air flow and light inside house.
Similarly, house can be built by locally available materials and the spacing for each pigeon is 30cm length by 30cm width and height equally and continue by keeping the room safe for pigeon away from predators and then prevent direct entrance of water inside the house as well..
Keep the house clean and dry and cleaning must be done once or twice a month for the better health of the pigeons. To feed the pigeons, feed should contain 15-16% protein and each should be fed 30-50g of grainy feed daily. Keep food in front of the house and for fast growing of pigeon babies, feed them on shell, limestone, borne powder, salt, green mixture and mineral mixture with regular feed and green vegetables together with clean water near the house.
Furthermore, baby pigeons take food from their mothers for 10 days and are able to fly to feed them selves. Keep feeds and clean water near house and pigeons start laying at 5-6 months, they lay a pair of eggs per month and hatch for 17-18 days. Diseases which affect pigeon performances include T.B, cholera, fowl typhoid, new castle, pox, influenza and mal nutritional diseases.
Finally for better results, follow vet advices, separate sick from health birds, vaccinate timely, keep house clean and germ free, feed them balanced feed and use medicines to remove lice from their bodies.
