Newcastle is a virus disease that can only be prevented and not treated. It can be controlled by vaccinating the birds at different stages.
There are two types of vaccines: oral vaccine and lasota vaccine. When using the oral vaccine, mix the dosage by breaking the lid and opening the cover in water. Use water that is not chlorinated for the efficiency of the vaccine.
Lasota Vaccine
Lasota vaccine is injected to the chicken and works for six months without the Newcastle reoccurring. To store the vaccine for a long time keep the vaccines refrigerated but do not freeze it.
Vaccines administration
One can either use a normal syringe injection or an automatic syringe.
When using an automatic syringe take the needle and press it on to the vaccine then take the vaccination gun and connect it to the needle. Perforate it at the top of the container to prevent it from being air lock using a small needle.
Take a needle that has not been used and tie it to the tip of the gun and read the dosage before use.
Places of vaccination
Do not spill the vaccine on the floor to avoid it from spreading to the other parts of the farm. You can do the injections on the bird at two places, the breasts and thighs. Inject the bird at 60 degrees avoiding the tip of the needle touching the bone.
When holding the bird during the vaccination, hold the legs firmly and use the left hand to hold the bird from the shoulders to feel where the fleshy part of the breasts is.
