The health, quality and quantity of the livestock on the farm is determined by the level of sanitation, disease prevention and pest control.
Given that most respiratory diseases of pigs come during the transportation from one place to another. In the process of transporting of pigs, there is need to get transport clearance and equip the truck with required needs such as garbage bags, hand sanitizer, clean coveralls, boots etc.
Biosecurity protocols
First, get transport clearance and equip the truck required need such as garbage bags, hand sanitizer, clean coveralls, boots and biosecurity kit to move from car to trailer. Put on coveralls and boots and make sure feet don‘t contact interior of car.
Similarly, setup biosecurity kit and allowing the feet to touch the ground, remove shoes and step directly on bio security top. Put on coveralls, boots, gloves and enter the trailer to load the pigs and after, return to bio security top and change back into original cloths. Store bio security equipments and disinfect your hands.
Continue by transporting the load responsibly by using the most direct and secure route to the farm for safety of livestock and when on farm, put on bio security equipment following farm‘s protocol. Unload the pigs, exit the trailer and sign the necessary paper work.
Finally, store equipment for cleaning by placing them into garbage bag labelled dirty, clean, disinfect and dry the trailer preparing for another load.
