Feed formulation is an integral part of the catfish farming business due to the fact the cost of imported feed is high making the cost of feeding to be high. Fish farmers are therefore encouraged to produce feed for their fish in order to reduce the cost of production.
Ingredients
The major ingredients needed in catfish feed formulation are; 15 of roasted cassava flakes, 15 kg of maize flour, 20 kg of ground nut cake, 30 kg of soybean, 500g of blood meal, 0.1kg methionine, 25 kg of fish meal, 0.1kg of vitamin C and 0.2kg of salt.
The total quantity of ingredients required is 105 kg.
Feed production process
Boil about 5 liters of water and pour it into a 20-liter bucket, add cassava flour, and stir properly. You can as well add blood meal and stir properly.
Now add soybean meal, fish meal, and methionine and stir.
Dissolve salt in water and add to the solution.
Pour the mixture into a pelleting machine in order to make pellets. The size of pellets depends on the sieve on the pelleting machine.
