Pure breeds are more productive and have a faster growth rate than local breeds but people are afraid of rearing them because they feel they are too complicated.

With good management, goats can live in all environments in Africa and specifically Uganda. Pure breeds of goats can live in same structure as locals. This enables a farmer to rear very expensive goats cheaply.

Care for pures

Ensure that your feeding the animals on right nutritious food which enable the animals to grow.

When doing commercial goat farming, ensure that you spray and deworm your animals. Spraying should be done at least once every week while deworming should be at least once every three months for matures and once every month for the kids.

Vaccinate the animals following a vaccination schedule and do not have to wait for a disease outbreak before you vaccinate.

Important points

When starting with locals in goat farming, it is advisable to have a pure breed male so that the offsprings are hybrids with improved genetic composition.

With good management, you can rear any breed of animals be it pures or the locals.
