Being a lucrative business in agriculture, the quality and quantity of swine products obtained from swine farming is determined by the production technology used.
As there are 4 stages to post – natal piglet care, first stage is clipping of navel and dipping in iodine solution, second is clipping of needle teeth, third stage is administering of 1 ml of iron dextran intramuscularly and final stage is administering of piggy boost.
Piglet handling
For the first stage, clip the navel of piglet and leave 2 inches and apply iodine solution to prevent bacteria entry into piglet and prevent the disease that cause accumulation of of blood in the joints leading to swelling of joints of piglets.
Additionally, clip needle teeth using clipper to prevent injuries on the others and because piglets are borne with iron deficiency, administer 1 ml of dextran intramuscularly to piglets to provide iron.
Finally administer 2ml of piggy boos to provide vitamins and minerals to piglets.
