Because farmers lose quality of their harvest during storage, post harvest losses of beans can be reduced using simple technology. As insects attack and bore holes in the beans, storing beans in airtight jerrycan kills most of the insects and a container of atleast 5 litres size and 20 litre. Use a containers that have never handled hazardous materials and when opening container, eat the contents and finish everything in a few weeks.

Bean storage

First, before storage, dry seeds well in sun on tarpauline, sort and pour them inside the clean dry jerrycan, shake it and cover with soft plastic bag ad seal the jerrycan lid tightly and label with date sealed and the purpose. Once sealed, leave it for atleast a month and never open until time for planting to prevent new supply of air for eggs to hatch.
Finally, dont store beans for planting more than 6 month in a jerrycan as the seed viability may reduce.
