»Many farmers in developing countries keep some chickens, either small numbers or large numbers. However, another type of poultry farming is becoming rapidly popular, namely quail farming.«

Quail farming is becoming more popular among farmers as their eggs, that have more nutritional value, they contain more B1 and B2 vitamins and iron than chicken eggs.

Quails are vulnerable birds to keep that need to provided with proper housing. An appropriate cage ensures proper protection for your investment.

Advantages of quail rearing

They are cheaper to keep since they eat less and do not get sick too often. They grow fast and start laying eggs at about 6 weeks of age. Quails are small in size and can be reared in small spaces.

Requirements

Construction materials can be obtained from the local hardware store and timber yards. Recommended cage for every 20 birds: 2ft long, 2 ft wide, 4ft high for optimum comfort for the birds. Materials include: 2m iron sheet, ply wood 90 feet of 2 by 2 metres timber. 80 feet of 2 by 1 metres timber, 30 feet of 1/2 inch wire mesh, nails and 2 pairs of 3 inch hinges.

Construction of Quail house

Quail birds need to be sheltered from rain, heat from the sun and get a good supply of fresh air. They easily scatter in all directions and can be exposed to danger from cats and dogs hence proper housing is required.

A frame of the cage is constructed as per requirements from timbers and corners reinforced for stability. Plywood is cut for the floor for easier cleaning and to prevent the quails from getting stuck. On the sides, a wire mesh is used to ensure proper air circulation. Door frames and legs are constructed and fixed on the cage. Proper quail housing ensures proper protection that help you achieve maximum profits.
