Black Soldier Fly Farm Nepal
»In this video we have tried to explain the simple setting up of BSF cage at home. This setup helps the flies to breed and lay eggs to its full potential under the influence of natural light. It is economical as well.«

Black soldier flies rearing is a lucrative business opportunity for income generation to farmers as it requires less capital and space.

The BSF cage is the cage were adult flies are kept for 4-7 days in which they mate and lay eggs. After natural process of breeding the females lay eggs near food sources. The food sources can be ripen fruits, cow dung or any decaying matter with strong odour. However the facility should be divided into three main parts namely BSF cage, feeding box and pupating box to ease management.

Cage construction

Start the process by building and hanging on ceiling a net of 1 metre length, 1 metre breadth and 1.5 metre height to give the flies enough space to flutter around.

Then ensure that the net faces down wards direction to get maximum sunlight during day time, after place a plywood at the base of the net at height of 2ft so that the sunlight directly touches the plywood.

Thereafter cover the base surface, fill it with soil and place a plant on top to give the flies an impression of natural habitant.

Alway ensure building BSF wooden plank eggies of 25cm by 25cm stacked on one another since the flies do not lay eggs directly near food sources but under crevices and cracks.

Conclusively place eggies above food sources inside the net to attract flies to lay eggs onto the eggies.
