Honey is one of the important products in bee keeping and proper harvesting of the honey is key in maintaining the quality of the honey.
Before getting onto the journey to go harvesting honey, first wear your bee keeping suit which helps protect you from being stung by bees. Equip your self with a little bee smoker, gentle brush for brushing the bees off the frames and a hive tool for cracking the hive open.
Honey extraction
Open the bee hive and check out for the frames that are filled wih honey. Leave the half filled frames to enable the bees finish up with filling them with honey. After getting the frames out, cover back the hive.
Put the frames into a wheel barrow and cover. Take the frames into the processing room where the honey is extracted from the frames.
Scratch off the top layer of wax from the honey cells using a knife and put the frames with uncapped honey cells into a honey extractor and spin. This removes the honey from the honey cells.
After spinning, allow the honey to tickle to the bottom of the spinner. Open the tap of the spinner to allow honey flow through a coarse and fine sieve into a bucket. The honey is then packaged in bottles and sealed.
